Trivia Setback started to play in 1994 as a continuation of the punkband No Solution. The first line-up was Tomas Strömberg (guitar), Ulf Olsson (bass), Johan Gummesson (vocals) and Magnus Sjöberg (drums) after a few rehearses Mikael Svensson joined as a second guitarist. Most of the influenses came from the New York scene with bands like Cro-Mags, Sick of it all, Madball, Agnostic Front and Blood For Blood. Did the first recording at Studio Holken in the beginning of 95 and contributed with three of the songs on the compilation “Distortion to Hell… and back vol 3” on Distortion rec. (as No Solution). Recorded more songs and appeared on some more compilations among them “Things to do today” on Mikael Karlssons (bassplayer in Rövsvett) label Fetvadd rec. and “Stand as one” on German We Bite rec. Played rather much live at a time, mostly around the south of Sweden. Then in 98 Sjöberg and Svensson was getting tired of playing and wanted to go on with other things in life and decided to quit the band. New bandmembers become Niclas Sjöqvist on guitar, earlier in Nyx Negativ among other and on drums his younger brother Markus Sjöqvist. Shortly after that Strömberg got a phonecall from the Stockholm-based label Burn rec. saying they have had a few bands under supervision and wanted to go on with Setback. The debut album “The path of resistance” was released in 99. Unfortunately Burn wasn’t a quite serious label and after major delay problems and total lack of interest from the label people the label was shut down and the people responsible for it kinda disapeared. Because of that the album is very hard to find and Setback never got any money for sold albums from Burn. In February 2000 Setback went to Berno Studio in Malmö to record what was intended to be a follow-up fullength album. But sadly it remains unreleased. Trapdoor rec. wanted to release it but had a tight budget. Anyway two of the songs can be found on their compilation “Holy Shit #3”. Shortly after that release the band split up. Gummesson moved to Gothenburg and is today vocalist in thrash metal band Kaliber and bassplayer for Not Enough Hate, he also play guitar in a punkband called Skull Island. Niclas Sjöqvist is in a punkband called Dampungarna. |
